The Kentucky Opry began in May of 1988, in a humble Quonset Hut just two blocks from it’s present location. The Talent Search came about seven months later in January 1989.
The Talent Search ran every Saturday January thru May just like today – 25 years later. It was a way to keep the band working, and a way to keep the Opry open during the winter.
We had many people come out to see their children and grandchildren perform who had never been to the Opry. That still happens today too!
A unique thing about our Talent Search is people must perform Live – No Tracks are allowed. Most performers LOVE singing with a Live Band. And we have a really Good Live Band!
The Kentucky Opry Staff Band consists of Alan Griggs – Drums, Ronnie Griggs – Bass, Jamie Jameson – Lead and Rhythm, Steve Helm – Steel Guitar and Dobro, Carson McKee – Fiddle and Vocals, Savanna Gardner and Hunter Wright – Vocals, Aaron Watkins Bass Vocals and MC, Aaron Thompson – Banjo and Angela Mosley Alton – Keyboards and Music Director. Extras – Connor McKee- Mandolin, Carson Wright Mandolin and Vocals, and Clay Campbell MC, Owner and Founder
